April Showers Bring the Need for WET-iquette....the etiquette of umbrellas, wet shoes and raincoats - GWCC

By Joan R. Stokely

The month of April has the distinct characteristic of being associated with inclement weather. This is the month for umbrellas, shoes that are rain resilient and raincoats. The etiquette of wet apparel, umbrellas and wet-squeaky shoes is heightened during this month because according to the Farmers’ Almanac, more that half the days of April will be wet.

WET-iquette Guidelines for Umbrellas, Wet Shoes and Coats

• Do walk on the right side of the sidewalk to avoid umbrella mishaps

• Do shake off extra rain from your umbrella with caution – avoid the unsuspecting pedestrian

• Don’t poke others with a pointed umbrella tip; if not in use, the point faces downwards

• Don’t place wet umbrellas on any seats including: cars, public transportation vehicles and restaurant booths

• Don’t hang your umbrella or wet coat right next to someone else’s coat

• Do ask for guidance when entering someone’s office regarding proper placement of your wet items

• Do tap excess rain off your shoes before proceeding into an office

Wishing you a Happy Spring!
